Biography
Prof. Ricardo J. Rabelo took his Ph.D. in Robotics and Integrated Manufacturing at New University of Lisbon, Portugal, in 1997. He is Associated Professor of the Department of Automation and Systems at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) since 2000, and coordinator of GSIGMA – Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Group (www.gsigma.ufsc.br). He worked as consultant for 3 years (1983-1985) and in the Mercedes-Benz of Brazil (1986-1987), leading a division of software development for the Computer Aided Manufacturing area. He has participated in several national/Brazilian and international research projects (ESPRIT and IST FP4-5-6 programmes) as well as in cooperation projects with Europe (ECLA, CYTED, INCO and KIT programmes) as the UFSC representative / technical contact. He has more than 90 publications, and he is a member of IFIP WG5.5. He has been involved in the organization and program committees of several national and IFIP & IEEE international conferences and he is member of editorial boards of a number of international journals.
