Biography
Professor Terrence Fernando completed his BSc in Electronics and Telecommunications in 1982 at the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka and then went on to completing his MSc in Digital Electronics and Microprocessor Engineering at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST). He received his PhD in Computer Science from UMIST in 1987 and then joined the University of Leeds as a Research Fellow in 1988. He became a lecturer at the Universit of Leeds in 1992 and led a group of research in the area of distributed virtual engineering and driving simulation. He joined the University of Salford in 1997 to set up a research centre in Virtual Environment and then became a full Professor in year 2002. In 2001, he received funding from the Office of Science and Technology to setup a regional cenrte in Virtual Prototyping involving four regional university in the North West region of UK and established a strong multi-disciplinary group in distributed virtual engineering to explore novel virtual prototyping technologeis for produt simulation. In 2007, he established a Innovation Centre called Think Lab at the University of Salford and became the Scientific Director to lead multi-disciplinary research within the University. He has a track record in successfully deliverying major EU and national projects.
