Biography

Prof. Dr. rer. pol., habil. Ing. Thomas Fischer studied mathematics at the University of Stuttgart (Diplom-Mathematiker). He received his Ph.D. (Dr. rer. pol.) from the University of Frankfurt, followed by research and teaching activities for the University of Technology Darmstadt, the University of Münster and the University of Stuttgart, where he received his venia legendi (Dr. rer. pol., habil. Ing.). Professor Dr. Thomas Fischer is member of two faculties: At WHU, he heads the Chair of Business Information Science and Information Management since 1995. At the faculty of engineering at the University of Stuttgart, he takes responsibility for the area of business cybernetics.

Furthermore, Professor Fischer is Director of the Centre for Management Research of the German Institutes for Textile and Fibre Research Denkendorf (DITF Denkendorf) (www.ditf-denkendorf.de/mr) since 1984. This centre takes a leading position in management research for the textile and clothing sector and the related networks of users and service providers. Professor Dr. Fischer participates in numerous practically oriented research projects of the European Union (DG Research, DG Information Society Technologies and DG Enterprise).
