The Workshop will have the objective of debating the potential and merits (and possible drawback) of a wide spectrum of scenarios for the future of businesses on the Internet, taking into account specific enabling FI technologies, in order to help pin-point:
-
The more promising FI technologies and their application for specific businesses
e.g. what are the key capabilities that FI must and will bring to produce a positive impact on and for enterprises? -
How those technologies meet and possibly transform business needs (existing, emerging, blue sky thinking)
e.g. will FI lead to a new world of competitiveness? which and how would specific FI technologies, methods and tools help boost the competitiveness and innovation capability of enterprises especially SMEs? -
Paradigms of improvements to existing business as well as radical business transformation
e.g. should such paradigms be guided by cost reduction/efficiency improvement, differentiation, incremental/disruptive innovation; should they be guided by conventional economic values, new economic values, or even radically new business values? -
Gaps if any between FI priorities and business priorities and expectations and how those gaps may be bridged
e.g. how to overcome today’s ICT limitations, thus closing the gap between technology promises and the large scale update of Internet-based technologies?
A key focus of the session is on connecting the innovation potential of European SMEs with the thrust and likely impact of FI research.
A secondary objective of the session is to bring together stakeholders from different backgrounds to engage in a constructive dialogue on establishing complementary approaches between different R&D initiatives, thus making them more attractive for business including SMEs participation.
The workshop is central to the COIN vision and mission.
