COIN Multipliers Prize Q&A

Q1: I cannot download the Documentation and Template Material; I receive a message "my account doesn't have sufficient privileges to view the page".
To get access to the documentation you should have subscribed to the portal with the option "Interested in joining as multiplier", this missing flag causes this message. You can either register a second account on the portal or contact abraccini@esoce.net to request the account to be upgraded.
You can also access documentation material directly from this link

Q2: Can organizations already partner in the COIN Project participate?
This initiative is not directed to COIN Partners that are requested instead to circulate the information on the Prize through their network or channels (website, newsletters etc.)

Q3: Is there a word version of the template for the idea to submit?
You can download the .doc version from this link

Q4: In case my organization is awarded with the Prize are there any specific commitments?
As described on the second paragraph of the "Multiplier Prize - Documentation" document, winning organization will receive ad advance payment (15% of the monetary prize) and will be involved in a specific follow-up dissemination-targeted initiative (i.e. at the ICE-Conference www.ice-conference.org) where the idea can be presented with, for example, an elaboration of a business plan regarding the specific test case or the implementation of a demo for the service.

Q5: Can the idea be concretely developed with the involvement of the COIN Project?
The evaluation of the idea for potentially reach a concrete deployment is among the objectives of the Multipliers Prize Initiative, however the in-prospective development of the pilot case or innovative service(s) remain a distinct aspect and step, and based on a successive, separate and discretionary agreement between the COIN Project and the organization

Q6: I have a question on the specific EI / EC Service whose information are unclear or incomplete to me, for the development of the case
COIN is a four year integrated project whose development will end with 2011. Some services could still be under development status and/or not including specific functions or information. This statement of fact is in line with the scope of the Initiative whose main objective is not to deploy a pilot or develop a service but really provide ideas on how the EI / EC Services can be adopted (but also improved, integrated, interpreted in its functions) in conjunction with an innovative idea on a business scenario.

Q7: My idea includes some innovative aspect that would require IPR protection

  • The participation in the Multipliers Prize Initiative does not imply any transfer of the exploitation rights related to the submitted idea to the COIN Partners.
  • The ideas collected with the Prize initiative are exclusively submitted to ESoCE, COIN SP2 Exploitation Manager, that guarantees the confidentiality of the enclosed information. The intellectual property rights of the idea submitted is not in any case transferred with the Prize participation but remain with the proposal.
  • ESoCE will sign a N.D.A. for the idea submitted. The idea will be evaluated by an Internal Panel of experts that will sign the same agreement.
  • Collaboration beyond the term of this Price will be addressed by specific agreements.

The COIN Project is only interested in the dissemination aspect of the ideas submitted as way of collecting and sharing guidelines on the potential adoption and exploitation of COIN Services and platform. Thus COIN request a public description of the submitted idea for dissemination and impact creation purposes.

Q8: Can a participant organization propose more than one idea?
Yes, this option is possible and also encouraged

Q9: I'm not able to participate since I'm missing a partner for the realization of the idea
Since the initiative is only the definition of an idea, you can mention/identify the amount of resources and the type of partnership you need for the potential realization of your idea / project.
You can clearly mentioning you are expecting this support/partnership from the COIN Project/Community (it will be also a plus for criteria evaluation #4 where the motivation in really adopting COIN Platform / Services and networking with COIN can be positively evaluated).
In addition, if your idea will be awarded, the COIN Project will be glad to provide a partner (within COIN Community/Consortium) for the concrete realization of the idea.
