The Semantic Technology Institute (STI) Innsbruck is one of the worldwide leading research groups working on the Semantic Web, Semantic Web services and Service Oriented Architectures. Starting as a research group under the guidance of Prof. Dieter Fensel in 2003, it has officially been turned into an independent research institute at the University of Innsbruck as of January 2006. STI Innsbruck has two full-time professors, Prof. Dr. Dieter, several additional part-time professors and roughly 60 employees. STI Innsbruck maintains broad international collaboration research institutions and industrial partners in many countries outside of Europe, such as the United States, Japan, and South Korea. STI Innsbruck is currently involved in a number of FP6 and FP7 EU projects related to the Semantic Web and Semantic Web services such as SUPER, TripCom, SemanticGov, SEEMP, MUSING, COIN, ACTIVE; LarKC, SOA4ALL and SHAPE.
